Sudipto Roy obtained his PhD in developmental genetics from the National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, where he studied the cellular and genetic basis of muscle and neuronal development in the fruit fly. He began his postdoctoral studies at the Centre for Developmental and Biomedical Genetics at the University of Sheffield, UK, and joined the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) in 2002. Roy is currently a Senior Principal Investigator and an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Paediatrics of the National University of Singapore. He has received awards and fellowships from international organizations, including the Wellcome Trust and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), and was honoured with the prestigious Indian National Science Academy Young Scientist Medal by the President of India in 2002.
