Ning Ding received his PhD in 2009 from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) where he focused on the fabrication of lithium-ion batteries. Thereafter, he joined Sony as an engineer, establishing a battery research lab to develop high-capacity batteries. Equipped with industrial knowledge, he joined the A*STAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering in 2012 and has been investigating next-generation rechargeable batteries.
